Everyone from Bob Costas to LeBron James seems to be caught up in Phelps Phever. He's already got more gold medals than anyone else in history and could have three more by the time it's all over... not to mention what he might do at the next Summer Olympics in London(I might start tanking my team now to get in position for the 2012 draft). But is he really the best Olympian ever? Lots of people say yes, but this guy says no.
What do you think?

Somebody needs to teach this guy about lactic acid.
How about two different standings? 1 for teams with Phelps, and the other for teams without?
Cause really, he KIND of throws things off a bit doesn't he?
Jason, I would agree with you there... but at least a couple of divisions are being led at the moment by someone who DOESN'T have Phelps. It will be very interesting to see what happens over the next week when everyone gets out of the pool.
How you can tell he's not the best ever? Simple: we haven't named a division after him. Give it some time, NBC.
I think if you are looking off of medals alone has is definitly the best, however, I think it's still premature to say the best ever. Figure this, that there are more swimming events in the olympics than say, shot put. Shot put has one event and that's it. So the bes tshot putter will only get to collecet one medal each olympic games. This doesn't take away what Phelps has accomplished and nor should it. But he is definitley in the argument...and maybe one day...ONE day he'll have his own league...Then we know he's among the best of the best...
